Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program 2026: How Eligible Medicare Patients May Access Wegovy®, Zepbound®, and Foundayo® for $50 Per Month

Beginning July 1, 2026, eligible Medicare beneficiaries may be able to access certain GLP-1 weight loss medications for no more than $50 per month through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program.

Medicare Expands Access to Weight Loss Medications

This demonstration program is designed to improve access to highly effective anti-obesity medications for qualifying Medicare patients who meet specific eligibility requirements.

The program represents one of the most significant expansions of Medicare coverage for obesity treatment in recent years and may allow many patients to obtain medications that were previously unaffordable.

What Is the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program?

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program is a CMS demonstration initiative designed to provide eligible Medicare beneficiaries with access to covered GLP-1 medications used to reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction.

Coverage is not automatic. Beneficiaries must meet Medicare eligibility requirements, clinical criteria, and prior authorization requirements established by CMS and participating Medicare Part D plans.

Who May Be Eligible?

  • Be enrolled in Medicare Part D.
  • Be enrolled in an eligible Medicare prescription drug plan.
  • Use a covered GLP-1 medication for weight management.
  • Meet Medicare GLP-1 Bridge clinical criteria.
  • Meet prior authorization requirements.

  • Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plans (MA-PD)
  • HMO Plans
  • HMOPOS Plans
  • Local PPO Plans

  • Employer Group Waiver Plans (EGWPs)
  • LI NET Program Participants
  • Certain Dually Eligible Beneficiaries

Wegovy®

  • Wegovy® Injection Pens
  • Wegovy® Tablets

Zepbound®

  • Zepbound® KwikPen®

Foundayo®

Foundayo® was added to the program following FDA approval.

April 2026 Update: CMS updated guidance to include Foundayo® and clarified that only the Zepbound® KwikPen® formulation is eligible.

How Do Patients Obtain Coverage?

Patients cannot enroll themselves directly into the program.

  1. Schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider.
  2. Determine eligibility for treatment.
  3. Receive a prescription for an eligible GLP-1 medication.
  4. Have the provider submit a prior authorization request.

Prior authorization requests may be submitted electronically or by fax using Medicare GLP-1 Bridge documentation.
